British Rowing continues to support BRIT and champions the BRIT 2021 Challenge

We are excited that British Rowing are supporting us and championing the BRIT 2021 Challenge.

The BRIT 2021 Challenge is an inclusive feel-good fundraiser to improve mental health and fitness, all whilst raising vital funds to support young adult mental health. Every UK university, college and student union are invited to register to take part, enter teams, and support student and staff participation, both on campus or at home.

The Challenge is designed to be completed by individuals working as a team to cover the 2,021 mile distance by either hand-cycling, cycling, wheelchair pushing, swimming, walking, jogging, running, rowing or paddling (canoeing, kayaking or paddle-boarding).

Rowing Clubs throughout the UK are very welcome to take on the BRIT 2021 Challenge and rowers can complete their team's 2,021 mile target on rowing machines or on the water. If neither are possible due to COVID-19 restrictions, rowers can add their miles by wheelchair pushing, walking, jogging or running.

“British Rowing was delighted to support the British Inspiration Trust (BRIT) and their inspiring BRIT 2020 Row Britannia Challenge initiative for students and young adults.

It was a fantastically inclusive and accessible indoor rowing event and it was great to see so many current and retired Olympic and Paralympic Champions getting involved, acknowledging and being fully supportive of student and young adult mental health and their fundraising efforts. It also helped to raise awareness of the challenges faced by many students and young people.

We are delighted that BRIT are continuing to support young adults and students and look forward to the BRIT 2021 Challenge. Indoor and outdoor rowing are just two of the many ways that students and young adults can take part, whether it be at their local gym, on campus, at home or at their local rowing club. Good luck to everyone that takes part”.

Helen Rowbotham Director of Rowing Community and Strategy, British Rowing

We are inviting Olympians, Paralympians and sports personalities to join our BRIT Ambassador family and support young adult mental health throughout the UK. BRIT are keen to promote rowing as an adaptive sport and have been overwhelmed by the kindness from Olympic and Paralympic rowers who are encouraging their fellow athletes to unite with us in order to encourage young adults of all abilities to take part in the BRIT 2021 challenge.

BRIT Ambassadors are asked to choose a university or college and enthuse, encourage and inspire students and staff as they complete their BRIT 2021 Challenge. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, visits to campuses are not possible and therefore BRIT Ambassadors are providing supportive video and social media messages to students and young adults.

If you are a Rowing Club, please consider registering a team for the BRIT 2021 Challenge or encouraging and supporting your local university or college with their team efforts.
