Former Great Britain athlete and European medallist, Becky Lyne, joins our BRIT Ambassador family
We are thrilled that Becky has joined our BRIT Ambassador family to support and improve young adult mental health throughout the UK.
Becky is a former Great Britain middle distance athlete and European Championship medallist who now delivers, through Gracefull Running, coaching, mentoring and technical support to young athletes, professional runners and running communities.
“It's no secret that young adults are facing more mental health challenges than ever. As we all open up about these challenges we are gradually helping to destigmatise them and to empower people to proactively take back control of their wellbeing. The annual BRIT Challenge provides an excellent vessel to achieve this.
With BRIT's feelgood February fundraiser, every university, college, specialist college and Students’ Union are invited to enter teams and encourage their students and staff to take part in covering the 2022 mile target. It is inclusive of all abilities and there are many ways to take part including hand-cycling, cycling, wheelchair pushing, swimming, walking, jogging, running, rowing or paddling (canoeing, kayaking or paddle-boarding).
As a former athlete, Sport and Exercise Science student and now a coach, I wholeheartedly believe in the power of movement to transform people's lives; from helping people to regain their self-esteem, to the wonderful sense of belonging that being part of active community can bring, it truly is a 'wonder-drug'. And for that reason I am delighted to join the BRIT Ambassador family and champion the annual BRIT Challenge. Having recently worked closely with Sheffield Hallam University on a project to encourage people to get into running, I very much look forward to supporting them on their BRIT Challenge journey.
I also urge my fellow track and field athletes, past and present (or any Olympians, Paralympians, sports personalities, adventurers and explorers for that matter!), to join our BRIT Ambassador family as we unite to support and improve young adult mental health. Let's aim to get every UK university and college a BRIT Ambassador!”
Former GB athlete, European medallist and Running Coach and Mentor
Becky studied for her Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Sports Science at Loughborough University between 2000 and 2005. She secured an Athletics Scholarship at Butler University, Indianapolis, USA, between 2002 and 2003, where she completed her Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish Language and Literature.
In 2003, Becky became the European Under 23 800 metres Champion.
Between 2006 and 2012, Becky represented Great Britain as an international middle distance athlete.
Becky has been a Director and Coach at TrYumph In Life since 2012. TrYumph In Life provide sports coaching, healthy living seminars, corporate wellness, gifted and talented athlete workshops, school sports coaching and teacher training (including twinning with Kenyan Schools), Children’s holiday camps, retreats and training camps.
As a former professional athlete, Becky has experienced the highs and lows of a career at the top of her game. Her list of achievements includes fourth in the 800m at the 2006 Athletics World Cup and bronze in the 800m at the 2006 European Championships, a performance which took her to third on the British all-time list, and saw her awarded the accolade of British Athletics Writers' Association Female Athlete of the Year.
In 2021, Becky founded GRACEfull Running. Becky has amassed a wealth of knowledge and experience working with world leading specialists and coaches, which she now shares with young ambitious athletes, as well as her local running communities to inspire runners at every level to achieve their full potential.
As well as drawing on the priceless hands-on experience of being a professional athlete, Becky uses the scientific background gained from her First Class Honours Degree in Sport and Exercise Science from Loughborough University to shortcut through the confusion with the key guiding principles that form the GRACE-full Method.
Becky has always been someone to try and get to the root of the problem. Her international athletics career granted her the access to some of the country’s leading physios, biomechanists and doctors. Despite this, she spent the majority of her career side-lined by injury. Frustrated she would ask herself, “If humans are designed to run, why am I still getting injured?”. There had to be something fundamentally wrong.
What followed was years of reading, studying and experimenting to try and find the formula that would get her back running consistently. It was only after retiring from athletics and allowing herself the freedom to start dancing, that all the pieces of the jigsaw started to fit together. She realised that the postural requirements of dancing applied just as effectively to running. An epiphany whilst stretching in front of the fire conveniently packaged the 5 pieces of advice she would regularly give out to athletes she coached into the GRACE-full acronym;
Enjoy Since January 2019, Becky has been delivering monthly technique workshops to help others shortcut their way to a better understanding, appreciation and execution of running form. The content of these workshops is now freely available via her website, as is the ability to purchase online technique analyses and physio screens.
Becky and fellow Great Britain athlete, Marilyn Okoro, have also teamed up to deliver a Gracefull Girls Programme. Each Gracefull Girl who books onto the programme has access to;
Online strength & conditioning sessions
Personal optimisation seminars
