Special Relationship forged between The British Inspiration Trust and Mental Health Innovations

As a collaborative charity, the British Inspiration Trust (BRIT) strives to work closely with charities who support and improve young adult mental health. We are delighted to continue a special relationship with Mental Health Innovations (MHI) and champion Shout 85258.

On World Mental Health Day in 2017, The Royal Foundation announced it had granted £2 million to establish Mental Health Innovations (MHI) following the Heads Together campaign which identified the potential that digital tools offer in supporting people struggling with their mental health.

Mental Health Innovations (MHI) is a digital mental health charity, which uses digital innovation, data-driven analysis and the experience of clinical experts to improve the mental health of the UK population through the provision of digital tools, support and resources.

In 2019, after a year long pilot phase, MHI launched its first digital programme with the introduction of Shout – a free, 24/7 text messaging service, available for times when people feel they need immediate support.

Shout is available to anyone in a crisis – anytime and anywhere. It’s a place to go if you are struggling to cope and you need immediate help.

By texting ‘SHOUT’ to ‘85258’ a Texter will be put in touch with a trained Crisis Volunteer, who will chat to them using trained techniques via text. The service is designed to help individuals to think more clearly and to take their next steps to feeling better.

We are sincerely grateful to Victoria Hornby, Chief Executive of Mental Health Innovations, for all her support to collaborate with BRIT and are delighted to continue our special relationship in order to champion and promote Shout 85258.

“We are proud that The British Inspiration Trust (BRIT) has chosen to champion Shout 85258 as it works in collaboration with charities supporting the important issue of the mental health and fitness of young adults and students throughout the UK.

At Shout we provide free and confidential 24/7 support by text for anyone who is struggling to cope and would encourage anyone who needs immediate help to text SHOUT to 85258 to speak to a trained volunteer."
