We are thrilled that Lauren has joined our BRIT Ambassador family to support and improve young adult mental health throughout the UK.
Lauren has represented Great Britain at the FINA World Championships and England at the Commonwealth Games where she won three silver medals. She competed primarily in the backstroke and freestyle events.
“I am delighted to be a BRIT Ambassador and champion the annual BRIT Challenge in order to support and improve young adult mental health and fitness.
As a former student, and having competed alongside young elite athletes throughout my international swimming career, I can appreciate the many mental health challenges that young adults and students face. I am also mindful that the COVID-19 pandemic has impacting on the lives of many students with existing mental health challenges and more must be done now to avoid long-term consequences of their health and wellbeing.
I am delighted that he BRIT Challenge has been designed to be an inclusive feelgood February fundraiser and enables young adults and students of all abilities to take part in many different ways.
Olympians, Paralympians, sports personalities, adventurers and explorers are being invited to join our BRIT Ambassador family, champion the BRIT Challenge at universities and colleges of their choice, destigmatise mental health and champion equality, diversity and inclusion. I urge our current and retired British swimmers to join the BRIT family and unite to support young adult mental health and fitness throughout the UK.
Stockport is my home town and I look forward to encouraging and supporting students and staff at Xaverian College, Stockport College and Manchester Metropolitan University as they take on the BRIT Challenge.”
Lauren Quigley
Great Britain Swimmer and Commonwealth Games medallist
When she was 16, Lauren won her first British senior medal with the 50 metre Backstroke bronze at the 2011 Swimming Championships and then won the silver medal on her international debut at the European Junior Championships in Belgrade.
After reaching two finals at the Olympic Trials in London 2012, Lauren repeated the feat at the European Short Course Championships in Chartres, finishing sixth in the 50 metre Backstroke and seventh in the 100 metre Backstroke.
Having won her first national title with the 100 metre Backstroke gold at the 2013 Swimming Championships, Lauren reached the 50 metre Backstroke final and 100 metre Backstroke semi-finals on her World Championship debut in Barcelona later that year.
She completed her set of British titles in 2014, winning the 50 metre and 200 metre Backstroke. Lauren then won silver in the 50 metre Backstroke, 4 x 100 metre Medley Relay and 4 x 100 metre Freestyle Relay at the Commonwealth Games that same year.
More recently, Lauren joined Club Natació Palma to compete on the Spanish circuit and won silver in the 200 metre backstroke and bronze in the 100 metre backstroke at the 2019 Spanish National Swimming Championships.
Lauren is the Founder of Quigley Sport and Lauren Quigley Media. Quigley Sport is a platform created by Lauren to support not just swimmers, but all athletes, parents and coaches; providing the opportunity to have athlete mentoring and to transfer the knowledge and experiences Lauren has gained from her swimming career, from starting out, to competing across the world in international competition.
